Long Journey Home Begins

Sorry my posts have been a bit fewer and farther in between. Here in Guangzhou... the days sort of all stream together.

Tomorrow we leave for home. HOME. Yet another something Grace has never experienced before. What a bitter-sweet day it will be.

We CAN'T WAIT to get home see our B, K and D. We can't wait for something other than this Fred Flintstone bed. We can't wait to brush our teeth from water from a faucet instead boiled water.

And we REALLY can't wait for Grace to meet her big brothers and big sister. and for her to meet her FAMILY... Grandma, Grandpa, Nana, Uncles and Aunts, and cousins!

Still, a very real and large part of our heart is very sad to leave China. We are very sad to say goodbye to our friends (more like family) that we have traveled with these past 15 days. 15 days that sort of feels like a lifetime. But, mostly, we are sad to leave the beautiful homeland of our daughter.

Tomorrow we leave the hotel here in Guangzhou at 6:45 am. We will arrive home at approximately 11 pm EST. That means (if everything goes smoothly) we will have traveled doorstep to doorstep for about 30 hours.

Yikes.

With a 17 month old.

Double yikes.

OH... Benedryl. PLEASE be good to us.

So, until we are home... I'll leave you with a short little video of our little walker.

What an honor it is be her mother.

  2. LOVE IT!! I had to watch it twice, once just to enjoy the walking & the 2nd time to listen again to those squeaky shoes!! How cute they are! (Although, I admit I'm not sure how much Abby is going to love hearing Brianna walking around in a pair! She'll think Bri's feet are toys!!). As I mentioned in an email, your B, K & D can't wait to have you home but they are SUCH GOOD KIDS! You have an amazing family & it is just 1 sweet girl better now :-)

Safe travels & can't wait to see you!

30 hours... hmm, think of it as.. um, well, I can't think of anything witty. Its going to stink but every minute that goes by is closer to your own coffee maker, your own warm (and very comfy) bed, and your 3 very very excited little munchkins :-)

  3. Love the video!!! She looks so good!!! Safe travels home, we came home with a 15 month old and the planes are really big so she just crawled/walked around and slept, was great and we were prepared for the worst. I will pray you will have the same!!! Can't wait to see her home and a US Citizen!! I totally get leaving China, it's very mixed emotions, so excited to get home but very sad to leave!!!

  5. What a gift is has been for us to follow your journey to your daughter. We found your link on HKI. While we don't know you personally, we feel a connection in our hearts as we just found out we will be leaving for China next week to get our daughter from Henan. Thank you for sharing your story and your heart...it is a beautiful gift of love to see the sparkle in your Grace's eyes. We await with anticipation the journey that lies ahead. We will be praying for your trip home.
